Once you have access to the inside of the pipe by removing the valve or disconnecting at a splice point, you can thaw 8’ of pipe in less than 4 minutes. We estimate (and have tested) one litre per minute to do about 2.5 ft. The bucket will hold about 6 litres which will deice over 12 ft. If there are bends and curves, it may take a bit longer to navigate, and a bit more water depending on the situation.

Our clients have thawed frozen plumbing from the house, septic outlet pipes, frozen drains, water lines to supply livestock drinkers, hydrants, water hoses, and shop drains so far. We have also thawed outdoor graded yard drains, eliminating the need to call out a steamer.

Heat tape can prevent frozen lines installed correctly and running before temperatures drop. It is a great preventative measure. But so many things can and do happen (power outage, fuse blown . . . ) and it can fail without warning. Ice Hero is the emergency tool to use when prevention fails.

This is a common method, but it does carry some risk to the infrastructure (melting electrical parts, or damaging PVC pipe. It can also be risky for an inexperienced hand to use and could carry some risk to the user. It's also risky in an enclosed space like a barn or an RV underbelly. The Ice Hero is flame free, steam free, and cannot damage infrastructure or plumbing parts. It is also portable, and easy for just about anyone to use.

Traditional methods like propane torch, or buckets of hot water down the stand pipe work, but can be slow and sometimes a torch can damage the hydrant. The Ice Hero is a flame free, portable option that works by inserting a small tube of pressurized water down the interior of the frozen pipe. Usually you have to unscrew the hydrant head first, but the Ice Hero is quick, safe, and effective.

First, figure out how much of the line is frozen. If it's just the outdoor handle or a hydrant won't move, or maybe the float on a livestock waterer, it may be only the top of the line. You might be able to just pour hot water over that part and you are good to go!

But if nothing runs, the freeze is likely down the line.

By unscrewing the valve, or other fitting, you can get access to the line. That's when Ice Hero comes in! Simply fill the bucket with hot tap water, carry it to your problem, plug in the battery and insert the tube into the frozen water line. Turn it on and let the tube work its way through the frozen ice plug. If it's a straight run, you can thaw 2' of ice in 1 minute using 1 litre of water. If there are some bends and curves, it can take a little jiggling, but is still very quick. One bucket of water should thaw 8' or so at least and up to 12' on a straight run of pipe.

No. However, you can order extra tubes. The Ice Hero® comes with an 10' tube. We have 15’ tubes and 20’ tubes available for purchase with connectors and nozzles attached if desired. For almost all applications we've tested, the standard 10' tube is all you need.
